Anyone else getting the urge to get organized this season?!
It’s official — spring has sprung, and I can hardly contain myself (pun very much intended)! There's something about this season — the fresh air, the sunshine, the blooming flowers — that makes me want to declutter, refresh, and bring a bit more order to every nook and cranny. Maybe it’s the Easter baskets talking, but I’ve got containers on the brain.
This time of year always makes me think of baskets, and that naturally leads to one of my favorite parts of the organization process: selecting the right container. Because as much as I love a pretty bin, form must meet function — especially if you want your space to stay tidy long-term.
Let’s talk materials, lids, and labels — the trio that makes all the difference when choosing storage containers for your home, classroom, or office.
🧺 Woven Baskets
Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, closets
Vibe: Cozy, warm, natural
Pros: Visually appealing, breathable, blends well with décor
Cons: Can snag delicate items, not ideal for damp spaces
Woven baskets scream spring and are perfect for storing blankets, toys, or seasonal accessories. If you want something that looks good sitting out, this is your go-to.
🧊 Metal Bins
Best for: Garages, offices, utility spaces
Vibe: Sleek, industrial, modern
Pros: Durable, easy to clean, great for heavy-duty items
Cons: May scratch surfaces, can look cold in soft spaces
Metal bins work well when you're storing tools, paperwork, or cleaning supplies. They’re tough, stackable, and a good contrast to softer textures.
🧵 Canvas Containers
Best for: Closets, pantries, playrooms
Vibe: Clean, soft, versatile
Pros: Lightweight, collapsible, soft on surfaces
Cons: Can get dusty, less structured over time
Canvas bins are the MVPs of hidden storage. They’re easy to label and tuck neatly into cubbies or shelves — perfect for out-of-season clothing or kids’ toys.
🧳 With Lids vs. Without Lids
Lids:
✔️ Great for stacking
✔️ Keeps dust out
✔️ Creates a cleaner look
No Lids:
✔️ Encourages quick access
✔️ Easier for kids or busy hands
✔️ Ideal for daily-use items
Tip: Use lids for long-term or seasonal storage and open containers for daily-use items like mail, craft supplies, or snacks.
🏷️ Labeling Options
Your containers are only as useful as your ability to know what’s inside them. Don’t skip the label!
Here are a few of my favorite ways to label containers:
Chalkboard labels – Wipe and rewrite with ease
Pre-printed vinyl labels – Clean, professional look
Hanging tags – Add charm to woven baskets
Clear sleeves – Slide in paper labels you can update anytime
Color-coded dots or washi tape – Great for kids or visual learners
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right containers can make or break your organization system — and with spring in the air, there’s no better time to refresh your storage game. Whether you’re corralling clutter in a classroom, pantry, or linen closet, let the season inspire you to create a space that feels both functional and fresh.
And remember: when in doubt, contain it beautifully and label it clearly.
